"This is a request to advertise a public hearing by the County Board to amend, reenact and recodify Chapter 15 (Noise Control), Sections 15-3 (Definitions) and 15-6 (Prohibited Acts) of the Arlington County Code to prohibit the operation of gas-powered leaf blowers and gaspowered leaf vacuums at any time effective July 18, 2029. Specifically, the proposed amendments are intended to address the prohibition of gas-powered leaf blowers and gaspowered leaf vacuums within the ordinance. While many County residents who participated in the public engagement for the project support prohibiting gas-powered leaf blowers, many business representatives raised concerns about the upfront cost, lack of financing, and performance of electric alternatives. Opinions on a phase-out period which would delay the effective date of the proposed ordinance amendment, were divided: some residents favor a shorter or no transition period (less than 18 months), while most businesses prefer a long phase-out (36 months) or oppose the policy entirely. The Climate Change, Energy and Environment Commission (C2E2), Forestry and Natural Resources Commission (FNRC) and Park and Recreation Commission (PRC) submitted letters to the County Board regarding the proposed ordinance amendment and potential phase-out period. All three commissions expressed general support for the proposed prohibition of gaspowered leaf blowers and indicated that they would like to see the County implement an 18- month long transition phase prior to the ordinance amendment becoming effective. I have solar panels on the roof, and my central heating is gaspowered. It's almost free to run the AC all summer, and horribly expensive to have the thermostat above 18°C in the winter

Dealerships rely heavily on service and parts like oil changes for profit since EVs require significantly less maintenance, dealers have a financial incentive to favor gaspowered vehicles. Lobby against customer's ability to buy EVs easily.

Oooh ... Well, maybe not.

I'm not an EV kind of guy. A hybrid of some sort, sure. But a #pureev? No.

The infrastructure isn't there to make EV ownership the same as #gaspowered cars.

They have yet to present the EV that can get FULL RANGE in 15 mins, I can fill a gas tank in 15 mins or less. #mb
