A country like that is too unstable to base your geopolitical calculations on, whether it's trade, defence, or institutional leadership. It's like being chained to a mad dog.

geopolitical insider trading
Is anybody looking at the business deals and investments of the Trump camarilla while the boss is hyping up a possible renewal of the war against Iran?
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something going on.
This administration has no foreign policy, it’s basically all geopolitical insider trading.

Enlargement has been the EU’s most successful foreign policy.
It is also a direct investment in Europe's security.

Every round of enlargement has strengthened our continent.

Today's geopolitical reality makes the next one more urgent.

Dr Timothy Snyder is an acclaimed American historian, author, and professor. I talked to him about the stakes of today’s elections, where they fit in the larger geopolitical context, and what a big Democratic win today could mean for our democracy.

Everything he does is like a cartoon parody of imperialism that would be produced by a geopolitical adversary.

Start by deciding who your geopolitical allies are (eg, are you with the democracies or Russia?); rein in the tech oligarchs; stop destroying our climate
Great that American voters have seen sense but there’s a long way to go to repair the global damage of the past year+

Perhaps this is commentary material for Geopolitical Europe 👀

Would you want a read on this?
Yes, it was a landslide victory for Democrats in the US.

No, that does not mean that Europe can now take a sigh of relief or do less on security and defence.

Just as it is retrospectively obvious that the big geopolitical story of the 1980s was the collapse of Soviet power & influence (even though contemporaries didn't quite perceive it), so will future historians see that the big geopolitical story of the 2020s was the implosion of US power & influence.
Continuing the thread: it's entirely obvious how future historians will read the geopolitics of the 2020s. Here's a symptom: a serious DC think tank calling for U.S. retrenchment from the Western Pacific (to pair with the imminent withdrawal from the Gulf). www.defensepriorities.org/wp-content/u...

🇨🇦 Canada is emerging as a potential alternative center of influence for middle powers seeking predictable partners amid growing tensions with Washington.

I find this whole discussion fascinating because I think what it actually highlights is the incomplete reconciliation of a belief system in which the Pope is God's ambassador with modern democratic and geopolitical perceptions.
As a United States citizen, the Pope has the right to vote. As a matter of prudence, the Pope should not vote.
The Pope, as the sovereign of a foreign state, should/should not have the right to vote in the United States.

I would read that paper.

Canadian pensions. Our pensions.

"Renewable energy is cheaper than oil and gas and offers stable costs that aren’t tied to geopolitical conflict or global market volatility. Investing in clean energy advances energy security and creates the jobs and industries that will power Canada’s future."
We are wasting money and pointlessly.

Trump has "damaged, destroyed, undone, and deconstructed":

(1) immigrants welcome, esp for world-class universities
(2) solid govt support of higher ed, medical research, labs
(3) trade access to & from US markets
(4) stability from the rule of law
(5) geopolitical alliances
