#HEK293
If you're “pro-Ozempic” but “anti-vax because fetal cells,” I have news for you:
Semaglutide was tested using HEK293 cells, yep, a human embryonic kidney cell line. Funny how the outrage vanishes when the drug melts pounds instead of viruses!

Good. Fight. Vance is wrong, of course, but the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is a hate group so devoted to misogyny and right-wing propaganda they called the COVID-19 vaccines "morally compromised" because the HEK293 cell line was used in testing. They wanted these face-eating leopards.
JD Vance to CBS

"the US Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants, are they worried about humanitarian concerns? Or are they actually worried about their bottom line?"

Vaccines using MRC-5, WI-38 or HEK293, cells are only used for infection, are an intermediary and completely removed during purification processes (host cell residual DNA is tested)

Each cell line from one set of cells, from one embryo/foetus, from

HEK293: 1973
MRC-5: 1966
WI-38: 1961

There is another irony side to this Ivermectin used HEK293 in its development HEK293 is the cell line from Human Embryo Kidneys The one MAGAts claim is aborted fetuses

So, the MAGAts who are opposed to HEK293 are drooling over a drug created using HEK293

Where is this SV40 meant to be coming from? HEK293 cells?

Also the main reason conservatives have contrived to claim mRNA vaccines were developed using fetal parts is the HEK293 cell line, which is extremely common in biology R&D and 100% has been used to test ivermectin

I cannot quibble on a rational level with a moral objection to using HEK293 cells, but just understand if you do object as a matter of principle to using medicine made or tested on HEK293 cells then you probably need to abstain from modern medicine

Social media has been great in helping us identify contaminants or cofactors in the past - Any ideas what this complex might be in our HEK293 FLAG pulldown? (We should put together a repository of common contaminants in different cell types)
First post here- Hello Bluesky!
Quick science query: These 2D classes are from negative stain of
a FLAG pulldown (HEK cell eluate). Does this look like a real complex or a common contaminant? Would live to hear from anyone who’s worked on similar prep!

It's from a cell line that scientists use to test all manner of things called HEK293 (if you've ever heard of Henrietta Lacks and the immortal "HeLa cells" derived from her tumor, it's similar). The cell line was derived from an embryo in the 1970s, it's unclear if it was aborted or not.

For reasons that are beyond my expertise, kidney cells are exceptional good culture media (monkey kidney cells were the key secret sauce to creating the polio vaccine in the 50s)

Anyway, the HEK293 cell line are human embryo kidney cells derived from a legally aborted fetus in the 1970s

But MT breakage is relatively infrequent in cells suggesting that intracellular factors may help boost MT resilience. To test this, we performed buckling assays in presence of HEK293 cell lysates and found enhanced MT survival. 🧵(6/9)
