I built a "Trash Build" for just €300 total (i7-4930K + 2x GTX 1060) salvaging parts from eBay. Technologically, it's 10-year-old "e-waste".

The result? 🤯 On open-source LLMs (Ollama), it actually beats today's NPUs and €2000 AI laptops.

Did my first hardware #HTB challenge yesterday. Very easy is an understatement, but it was a fun change of pace from Windows boxes. 10/10 recommend, fun as heck.

This Saturday’s #defconmovienight brings one of the great #hardwarehacking challenges of the 20th century - Apollo 13.

Join us Sat. 8pm PST in the movie-night-text channel of our Discord (discord.gg/defcon). We’ll be watching our monitors breathlessly like Mission Control.

Finally got my 555 timer circuit blinking cleanly. 1000µF cap + 10nF on pin 5 did the trick. Slow, satisfying LED flashes from pure hardware. 3.3V

Every holiday season, I dive into hardware hacking—microelectronics, IoT, SBCs, and the joy of tinkering. This year is no different. Let’s start! Time to get hands dirty🎄🔧 #HardwareHacking #raspberrypi #gpu

For an upcoming talk I built a stand-alone #hardwarehacking tool out of a R-Pi Pico that does Serial + #SPI Dump + #eMMC Dump with a bunch of stuff I wanted. It only needs your browser, and serves the webpage that is the interface from the micro. No internet, no install. github.com/colinoflynn/...

Ok fellas... Let me teach you a nice trick... For 10$ you can get this and turn it in a portable microscope for inspecting PCBs #HardwareHacking #ProTip

You are welcome 👍😎

Updated the “blank” flash carts to display a message when put into a Lynx. These need a device to program them, they aren’t SD card based 😎🕹️

Meet our newest badge for #DEFCON34: Otto.

Designed by our very own Dan Allen, Otto is SAOv3-compliant and powered by an ATtiny1616 microcontroller.

But enough about the specs.

Does Otto remind you of anyone?

Lazy #hardwarehacking SPI dumping trick: you can normally use a lower VCC - the processor gets held in reset by the brown-out/reset logic, but still in #SPI operational range. No need to find reset pin/test pad.

I have been playing dice #chess with my kids lately. We were just rolling an ordinary dice to choose what piece could be moved on each turn, but I thought that building an electronic “dice” could be a fun #circuitpython project.

Working with RF and a commercial($$$) Faraday cage is tricky. My SDR radio is sealed inside. Watch as RF is radiated from me to the laptop traveling the USB cable into the Faraday cage and the SDR receiver.
