What is good about the 1984 version it is that it is bugfuck crazy. Ratmilking, heartplug insane.

If you had to pick out the movie that David Lynch did for Dino De Laurentiis in order to get Blue Velvet made by watching every movie made in 1984, you would know that it was this one 5 minutes in.

I have never been so disappointed. He's supposed to be a bored, sadistic weirdo and they used the original Giger designs for the Harkonnen aesthetic and yet not even a fucking hint of a heartplug slave or the strange billionaire-class cruelty that makes the character so grotesque.

oh god, I forgot the heartplug! I blanked it out of my teen brain in self-defense, I guess.

Time for your heartplug, Thufir.

The set designs and costumes are iconic, even if they shoehorned in pointless heartplug and cat milking gorn.

As far as I'm concerned, the Mentat Mantra is 100% canon.

At any rate, the two Syfy miniseries are still best. The new movies are okay.

I'll do better next time. Unless you pull my heartplug.

Just opening up the heartplug and pouring booze in

"Stephen Miller's Heartplug" would be a good name for a band

Spiderchair
Spiderchair
I sit there
I don't care
Bring a slave
Bring a crook
Sit them down
Watch them frown
Eat them all my Spiderchair
Eat them all I don't care

A Harkonnen Carol.

I tried to fit heartplug but sadly I could not. But warrior pug and heartplug do work together.

Ah well.

Labyrinth/Dune fanfic in which young Alia Atreides, tired of caring for her baby brother Paul, travels deep into the labyrinth to face the evil Feyd-Rautha Harkonen, but she has only 13 hours before he gets his heartplug inserted and becomes a Harkonen *forever*.

If I built this fortress
Around my junk

But yeah, as flawed as the final result was, Lynch’s Dune has so many indelible scenes. Floating Baron and the heartplug, the arrival of the Guild Navigator, Paul training with Gurney… all out of this world

Oh I like this. Things I was scared of as a kid:

The Ladybird Book Edition of Dracula. That book gave me my first proper nightmare.

David Lynch's Version of Dune. I saw this when I was like..3? That fucking heartplug scene 😭

Sitting at the plughole end of the bath.

The TV show Casualty. Grim
Things I was afraid of as a child:

Slurry pits (see “Apaches” [1977]).

Electric pylons.

Train lines.

Baron de Lefouet.

Anyone growing up in the UK in the late 70s/early 80s might already realise the first three are linked.
Things I was afraid of as a child:

The Bermuda Triangle

Ghosts (all kinds)

Birds (still am)

Bottom of the garden

The Demon Headmaster

It was on Channel 4 in the late 80s. I recorded it off TV and wore the tape out watching it.

But I also have a massive Mandela effect with it. I *know* that my version taped off the TV had Thufir pulling out his heartplug, but that's not in the movie, and only appears in DVD extras in the 00s.

It wasn't the Alan Smithee version with the drawn out intro.

It was the Virginia Madsen Irulan intro, which I memorised, and I swear to this day it had the Thufir heartplug scene in it.

Whether it was some bastard C4 cut of the two, I don't know. I was still a kid when I bought it properly on VHS.
