Pace - Proprio come le persone che sono sopravvissute alla bomba atomica in Giappone si chiamano Hibakusha, anche gli alberi sopravvissuti hanno un titolo onorifico. Si chiamano Hibaku-Jumoku.

Adding a little to the story: No one really protested the episodes when they came out but an official 70s card game called the aliens in question Alien Hibaku a reference to the Japanese term for atomic bomb survivors.
This got a protest letter sent to a magazine and it escalated from there.

Ryouga Suwa was 12 when Hiroshima was bombed. He evacuated but returned a month later to find his hometown destroyed and his family killed. He also mourned the loss of the Johoji Temple, which was in the area that is now the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. #CranesForOurFuture

Yes, totally fascinating. The hibaku jumoku (atomic blast survivor trees) are in a class of their own in Japan. They are richly document and carefully preserved, while firebombing survivor trees are virtually invisible in the public eye. A big part of this project is exploring how that came to be.

It's in #Glasgow Botanical gardens, #Scotland and it's a tribute to a future of peace.

From what I was told, the Hibaku thing wasn't even Tsuburaya's intention; it was the kids magazine that made it up, so Tsuburaya had to pull the episode from all future broacasting, despite it being perfectly fine in the 60s, for something that wasn't their fault

If I got my facts straight, the monster of the week, Alien Spell, resembles hibakusha, atomic bomb survivors. This mainly became an issue in 1970 when a magazine printed a trading card of the guy using the name Alien Hibaku. In response the episode got banned and Alien Spell was never used again.

I attended a lovely event at Glasgow's Botanic Gardens today, to open the new Peace Garden and to mark the 80th anniversary of the #Hiroshima bombing.
