my work is in mastodon, multiple matrix homeservers, curl, whatever cory doctorow and ed zitron uses and many more so you better start searching through those PRs

So we're having to do a full 55TB DB snapshot restore from last night, which will take >10h to recover the data, and then >4h to actually restore, and then >3h to catch up on missing traffic. Huge apologies for the outage. Again, folks using their own homeservers are not impacted.

they do say that you can migrate but if it's in the form of user@example.homeserver.net then uh. if you migrate homeservers you change your id, which then would break everything linked to that id right?

100%, although I'm honestly surprised I haven't heard of *any* alternate homeservers- can't say I've looked terribly hard, but it seems like it's only people hosting their personal profiles

It's a bad day for Matrix homeservers with open registration. The mod bots for the rooms I hang out in are working overtime banning a ton of spam bots from a couple of smaller servers.

My #truenas server has been transplanted from a desktop case to a 4u chassis, upgraded 2x 3tb mirror SATA HDD to 10x SAS 2TB HDDs in raid z2 2x vdevs 5 drives each. Hella redundancy!!

i don't know anything about it but looking at wafrn, why does it seem like they're brining back the busted method of federation that mastodon ran with? like the entire point of atproto is that you don't need to worry about homeservers, why is "create an account" prefaced with "choose a homeserver"??

if you want to offer PDSs to users then that's fair but keep it logically separate from your app. users will confuse the two and think they're changing homeservers on mastodon, not just data host (and identity owner).

Ich denke, da muss ich jetzt selbst mal überlegen, ob ich weiter meine 100 GB bei Ionos nutzen will, oder nicht eine Hetzner Storage Box miete für Off-Site-Backups unseres Homeservers UND meinen Zotero-Sync.
