Reading Mary Midgley's 1979 classic takedown of Dawkins in the wee quiet hour before having to take Toddler to Chinese homeschool with homemade dumplings. Hell yeah. Wish I had this assigned in college.

“I Used ChatGPT to Homeschool My Kids. Now They Won't Talk to Me." — The New York Times, 2038
Nice of the "I Used AI to Parent My Kid" crowd to provide us an early data point for tracking this arc.
To the extent columns exist mainly to air editorial/columnist anxieties, you do get a pretty funny progression from “affirmative action is bad” (my kids are applying for college soon) to “the woke campus mob” (my kids disagreed with me/dyed their hair) to this (my kids wont talk to me)

Today's homeschool lesson was intense — a crucial life skill.

Taught kiddo how to make meatballs for tonight's Halloween party.

I showed up on the last day of homeschool soccer to cheer as T-Rex and the little kids went wild. They loved it so much.

I helped judge decorated pumpkins for a homeschool group I work with (I provide childcare.) I thought it was a cute opportunity to photograph them with my Camp Snap.

and while I don't like that the homeschool laws here mean there's kids being educationally neglected, it does mean that I can teach them history as it actually was and not with this state's bullshit sanitization and erasure
anyways, I have successfully managed to get the part of my son's brain that loves to learn about lore to click with history. he keeps coming back to me with historical facts the same way he likes to come tell me Destiny lore

I think homeschooling should only be legal in very specific circumstances. My kid had to homeschool for 8th grade bc she was on meds that weakened her immune system. She used an online school program, but I also hired a tutor bc I’m a giant dumdum, no way could I help her with math.

That's great! Homeschool really works for some kids! I did Private, Public, and Homeschool. And I have homeschooled the twins, in the past.

We've had a great community, for the most part, but the school lost its Counselor, VP and Principal over the summer. They JUST re-staffed. So, lots shifting.

This is such a sad, sad reality. I took my kids out of school because homeschool is safer.
This Halloween keep in mind your child is several times more likely to be killed in a school shooting than find drugs in their Halloween candy.

Thanks Republicans

I keep getting Insta ads for an unregulated online Islamic homeschool that costs £7000 a year.

One, glad they're wasting their money to advertise to me - a childless poof.

But two, this is absolutely why homeschooling should be banned. That site gloats about limiting your child's "exposure".
