"HA degradation or synthesis inhibition reduced migration, but HMW-HA supplementation produced the largest reduction, suppressing migration to levels at or below stage B cells, with the effect strengthening over treatment duration"
Hyaluronan Surface Architecture Dictates Colorectal Cancer Progression and Extracellular Vesicle Communication
Hyaluronan (HA) is a principal component of the tumor glycocalyx in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, how the disease progression is linked to HA abundance and its nanoscale organization remains uncle...

(NB. we also describe a convenient approach for tracking HA degradation by solution 1H NMR, where labeling with 13C is not needed - compare to our recent work on 13C labeling HA)

Would be interested in the impact of stretching on hyaluronan behaviour, though suspect hydration, managing inflammation, and regular (within range) movement would be variables with greater importance.

A practical framework for label-free GAG disaccharide analysis by HILIC-MS/MS: detailed protocols for analysis of diverse biological sample types
PI: Douglas Dyer and David Knight (The University of Manchester) Keywords: GAG disaccharide analysis, heparan sulphate, chondroitin sulphate, dermatan sulphate, hyaluronan Proteoglycans, and their glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains, are critical components of the ECM and the glycocalyx. GAGs can bind to many different proteins, such as chemokines, and form hydrated bar...

A behind-the-scenes look at my most recent animation of hyaluronan heavy chain formation! #sciart

There is a part 2 coming up of this animation, as we have to have those heavy chains degraded! (This refraction process was foundational to my PhD research!

Made in procreate.

Another #scienceanimation, this time on the molecule I studied for my PhD! Hyaluronan (HA) is a sugar on the outside of your cells that can, during inflammation, form heavy chains that reach out into the bloodstream. These heavy chains can act as landing sites for infiltrating immune cells! #science
