I can confirm that every person in the Department of Education who worked on IPEDS received a notification this week that they were going to be fired. All of them.
Private contractors do some of the work on IPEDS, but it won't function without staff in ED.

This is who was fired from the union workforce at the Department of Education yesterday. Every single number is a person who served the nation and whose life was wrongly disrupted. That's the first tragedy, but it's clearly not the only one.

Eliminating the federal Department of Education would not only make schools more unequal but also eliminate (or at least severely limit) the data collection efforts needed to legally prove how unequal schools are.

I'm not saying a shutdown will definitely happen. I *am* saying that if one happens and you didn't grab that one census file or download the ipeds data you needed, you're gonna be mad.
Regarding a potential government shutdown, loving reminder from your neighborhood policy scholar to check and make sure you have all the data you need for the foreseeable future by Friday

The recent Compact piece about discrimination against white men argued that European white men were exempted for fairly implausible reasons (trust me, hiring committees are not aware of IPEDS), while not entertaining the more plausible explanation that larger talent pools create more competition.

Nearly every Democratic attorney general submitted public comments opposing the entire premise of the effort to collect detailed admissions data (retroactive and going forward) in IPEDS.

NCES released IPEDS data on institutional characteristics, 12-month enrollment, and completions for the 2023-24 academic year. It's 2-8 weeks later than the typical year.

Did any of the other backup sites preserve the College Scorecard? I saved IPEDS and the Scorecard, and I know I saw another source that nabbed IPEDS but haven't been able to find anything about the Scorecard
