I’ve got:

Theology (obviously)
Typography and print layout
Heirloom gardening
The proto indoeuropean homeland
Pens
Knowing about languages even if I don’t know the languages
Traditional hand tool woodworking
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts
I'd be happy with big non politics accounts.

Rūta is regarded as an Extremely Lithuanian first name in Lithuania precisely because the word sounds so genuinely very Lithuanian but... no. it seems to come from some weird pre-indoeuropean substrate in Greece

It's actually way older!! In some form or another, the same concept is found in virtually all indoeuropean languages, and should trace its roots to PIE *seǵʰ-seb

Took part in this workshop on the o-stem genitive singular this last week. The topic at first seemed impossibly narrow, but in the end we had a very rich set of discussions and it and all sorts of related matters in Indo-European (pro)nominal morphology over the course of the last two days.

basically every form of indoeuropean mythology (and probably all the other ones I just know the IE ones) has "if you do that then you'll fuck up and arrest God and he will End You"
Thinking about whoever said that by accepting a meal from people and then arresting them ICE agents broke a cultural taboo that was invented by, like, the first humans to set up a tent

You just know that somewhere in her notes, Marija Gimbutienė left us a basic primer to a DnD campaign set in pre-indoeuropean Europe, and it is our duty to find it.
Yes. But she was a real nerd. There's no way Gimbutas hasnt played DnD if nothing else.

Before yhwh became the "ur not allowed to depict me" god of the isrealites, he was a bull that controlleed storms and war
After he merged with their king god el, he took the apperance of el, the skyfather indoeuropean classic, long white/grey bearded stern grandpa

Derailing this very interesting and informative conversation to say that when i was a teenager, I learned all the pre-indoeuropean words i could find in preparation for any potential accidental wormhole type events that might have me end up in the ancient past.

Forgotten them all now.

Last night I got super high and started wandering around my kitchen trying to identify things that I thought a time traveling proto-indoeuropean language speaker might recognize and have a similar word for.

The word TRUE comes from
Old English triewe
Proto Germanic treuwaz
Proto IndoEuropean deru—

Which means firm, solid, steadfast and was originally connected to the words TRUST, TRUCE and TREE

What a crevasse between who we are and who we used to be

Birds, though, can still see

seems so, yeah - related to indoeuropean "glemb", "to push together"

The name of the Norse god 'Ty' comes from the same Indoeuropean root word for 'day' that also led to the names of the gods Zeus and Jupiter, and the Vedic 'Dyaus.'

My native language is Finnish. It's not an Indoeuropean language, so despite the fact that I've e.g. translated several books from Indoeuropean languages, I'm never quite sure why some phrasing in English feels right – is it good, or is my Finno-Ugric intuition leading me astray?

my body is a machine that in order to check if an ionic-attic η comes from ᾱ or proto-indoeuropean *ē has to hop on and out of Wiktionary constantly
