Meet our new post-doc, Alejandra Montaño Romero! PhD in @cryoet.bsky.social’s lab (JHMI), she studied neurodevelopmental mutations in glutamate receptors via experimental & in silico work. Now she will improve deep learning for membrane proteins and design therapeutic antibodies targeting them!

I just had a “Click!” Moment.
Free buses are not a wildly impractical proposal. In Baltimore, a city with fewer resources than NYC, runs at least 3 bus lines that run along the Inner Harbor, from downtown to JHMI, and from downtown to midtown.
All free. For years. Absolutely free.

I just saw a JHMI student defend today taking about BDNF and now seeing this! It's everywhere!

JHMI is very similar in this respect. Grant submission/management is truly seamless.

The people in 44 countries and the city of Baltimore who work for Jhpeigo, Center for Communication Programs, and JHMI are almost certainly not MAGA. These people worked on USAID programs. Don't dunk on this unless you're happy about USAID being gutted too.

I can almost get why Johns Hopkins Medicine caved in to “backlash” from egotistical torchbearers of White Fragility, but it’s nonetheless #shameful that JHMI, as a premier institution, so utterly failed to protect its distinguished physician-scientist & Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Sherita Golden.
Hopkins Medicine diversity officer steps down after 'privilege' email backlash
Dr. Sherita Golden has stepped down as Johns Hopkins Medicine’s vice president and chief diversity officer, two months after facing backlash over an email newsletter about privilege.

I love your bluetorials! I was a PhD student at JHMI 2000-2005. Your perspective is enlightening. I appreciate it as I was so focused on my project I had no idea about stuff at the dept/dean level. Now as faculty I have more appreciation (& sometimes frustration 😅)

I mean, they're losing basically half their research funding here, once you factor in matching grants, the NIH cuts not in the $800MM figure, etc.

That's going to put a serious damper on the kind of creative rapid response we saw from JHU/JHMI in 2020.
