Turkish Journalist Calls for Montella’s Resignation, Urges Arda Turan Appointment
Turkish journalist Muhammed Duman has called for the resignation of Turkey national team head coach Vincenzo Montella following a heavy 4-1 defeat to Italy in the UEFA Nations League. Duman argues that such a result leaves the Italian manager unfit to continue leading the national side. Duman highlighted that the loss in Bursa further exposed the ongoing crisis within the "Janissaries" squad. He criticized the team’s lack of willpower and inability to compete effectively against top-level opponents. As a replacement for Montella, the journalist suggested Arda Turan, the current manager of…

They are good at cultivating loyalty *because* of these horrible things. You have to go through something horrible to become a member, and now? Well, you went through all that, and now you can't just give it up. See, for instance, the loyalty of the Janissaries.

No tab Pete telling actual soldiers how their face should look. Maybe the Vikings, Crusaders, Mamluks, and Janissaries would like a word.

Shame Sikhs don't have a warrior tradit... oh... wait...

This has been a great weekend for painting! Mostly getting my Trench Crusade - Iron Sultanate rolling. While I'm not close to Islamic religion, I do love the Janissaries, Assassins, and Alchemical themes.

A few doggos for OPR, including RE4 Colmillos!

And lastly one more Ecclesiastical Prisoner

Also eunuchs were a subset of enslaved men, but not all enslaved men were eunuchs. The Janissaries weren't castrated nor were the mamluks. Cleese just has orientalist fantasy that I can't help but think was inspired by the Unsullied from Game of Thrones.

I don't want to get too galaxy far far away brained but it's always been pretty funny to me that the Jedi were basically Janissaries and the fall of the Republic boils down to a co-religionist sectarian struggle at the highest levels. The Ottoman empire is everywhere for those with eyes to see

Been feeling real Trench motivated lately. A couple of Janissaries for Those Who Believe

people have compared the cops to the janissaries for years and starting next year we will have the janissary corps at the peak of its decadence and ineffectuality with no preceding era of elite assault infantry to draw upon for legitimacy or prestige. this is uh Highly Unstable

I usually try to explain it like this: picture Gerard Way as Jeri Ryan. Now imagine they're Argentinian. Doesn't look so much like the Dust Bowl was caused by janissaries doing sex work now, does it?

Cannonballs are coming down from the sky

Janissaries, are you ready to die?

We will seek our vengeance

Eye for an eye

I mean, ban construction of Robo-Janissaries, and assign criminal liability to model owners/users for criminal acts and then enforce the existing laws.

Otherwise maybe some back-end nerdery with payroll taxes, but otherwise nothing crazy.

We certainly don't need a cartel.

Historian Françoise Thom compares Putin’s Russia to the Ottoman Empire, which, in the 15th Century, conquered vast territories in a matter of decades thanks to the Janissaries, young Christian prisoners converted to Islam who became the sultan’s soldiers.

Reading about Janissaries who seem to have been a really odd hybrid of slaves and public school kids; slavery without social death?

Could Turkey, Egypt or Pakistan do it? With Saudi money and logistical backing.

It'd leave the Saudi's really worried about their Janissaries getting ideas.

Got myself my first cezve! I have a Turkish friend that was helping me learn how to use it for brewing.

Now I want to make more Iron Sultanate Janissaries

A dire trend in the US Left is how rage over savage incompetence of Trump so often slides to fanboyism of any of his adversaries even if it is a group as tyrannically vicious as Houthis.

You don't exactly need the genius of Moltke or discipline of Janissaries to defeat Hegseth, MBS and Tareq Saleh

Others that almost made the list:

- Starship Troopers (Robert A. Heinlein)
- Janissaries (Jerry Pournelle et. al)
- The Prose Eddas (Snorri)
- The Death Gate Cycle (Weis & Hickman)
- Shadow Warrior (Chris Bunch)
- The Gamester Wars (William R. Forstchen)
- The Tanakh
- #Babylon5 scripts (JMS)

Too bad for her daughter, who got strangled in her sleep by her son's janissaries, to ward off future uprisings.

TBH, I mostly think the oligarchs will build the Robo-Janissaries *before* AI goes nuts.

(Or the AI going nuts will be deliberate on their part)
September 11, 2026 at 3:53 PM
Unironically, this should probably kick up the list.

Both morally and practically, trying to build Robo-Janissaries probably needs to result in a multinational coalition breaking your door in and burying your body at sea.
"Don't build the Robo-Janissaries" is actually a pretty important thing that we should probably push for international regulations on.
