#CampRevPit Hey everyone! I'm Ellen, zookeeper by day, writer of secondary world fantasy by night. My main WIP started because I wanted to write something stabby ("no plot, just stabs", hence the #JustStabsWIP title), but it ended up being a story about doing the good you can... and also stabbing.
I am proud to say that I finally churned out a draft query for #JustStabsWIP so that I'll actually have something to submit for #RevPit. Amazing how just doing something actually gets stuff done.

#LateNightWrite I don't know that any of my stories value friendships more or less than we do in the real world. But in #JustStabsWIP, my other revising WIP, Rin doesn't have friends because getting close to people just means they can let you down, so she doesn't personally value closeness.
Second Question: How does your world value friends and non-romantic relationships? Are there limitations or expectations on who can befriend whom?

#LateNightWrite Heyo, I'm Ellen. I'm revising #JustStabsWIP, a fantasy about a stabby-sapphic disaster who needs to be kidnapped onto her own quest. Once I finish this round I'll do a reread of my resurrecting immortals story, then return to JustStabs for hopefully the last pass before betas.
#LateNightWrite As noted, #JustStabsWIP is completely queernormative. There are characters throughout using they/them pronouns. No one has any reaction to Rin being infatuated by beautiful women except to note Rin can be stupid about it. Noble titles are designed gender neutral, including spouses.
Second question: are your worlds queernormative or heteronormative? Are there expectations for what a 'normal' or 'typical' relationship looks like?

#LateNightWrite At the start of #JustStabsWIP, Rin hates everyone on the team, and most of them hate her. Perhaps because they kidnapped her for the quest, and she crashed the airship in retaliation. Rin also doesn't trust people in general. It's great.
#LateNightWrite The enemy of my enemy is my friend... or something like that. Are there any instances of tenuous alliances between quarreling factions or individuals in your plot?

#SFFchat Not a ton, at least in how I plan out beforehand. Sometimes I get lucky. I honestly can't think of anything in #JustStabsWIP, in-text or meta, except for Rin wondering if a bear is a symbol for one city.

#LateNightWrite #JustStabsWIP is set in a queernormative world, so there are nonbinary characters throughout, both in the main cast and as random background characters. And no one makes any remarks about it, nor is it ever explained how they know the pronouns of someone they just met. It just is.
