#LateNightWrite I'm Ellen. I'm revising #JustStabsWIP, about a stabby sapphic disaster who has to be kidnapped on her own quest; querying #TheDragoneer, featuring steampunk-cyborg dragons; and have #OuroborosWIP, which vibes like a steampunk space opera, out with betas.

#LateNightWrite My MCs almost always have some super important friendships. Both my querying WIP, #TheDragoneer, and my revising WIP, #OuroborosWIP, are prime examples with their respective crews being critical support systems for the MC without ever having any chances of romance within them.
First question: how important are friends and other platonic/non-romantic relationships in your writing?

#LateNightWrite My MCs almost always have some super important friendships. Both my querying WIP, #TheDragoneer, and my revising WIP, #OuroborosWIP, are prime examples with their respective crews being critical support systems for the MC without ever having any chances of romance within them.
#SFFtalk I'm definitely fantasy, although sometimes it slides into science fantasy (such as #OuroborosWIP, which vibes like a steampunk space opera while technically being neither). But I'd love to try my hand at a space opera at some point. The main thing is that I live in the speculative world.

#LateNightWrite #OuroborosWIP is also fun. I encountered the term Ouroboros when I worked with a snake with that name in 2015, and I thought it would be a great name for a fantasy spaceship-like vessel. That sat in my head about a year and a half, until I just needed to write something. 1/2

#LateNightWrite Apparently in #OuroborosWIP, Lara's favorite meal is fried eggs with biscuits and gravy, since Cenetti says it's her favorite, but I think the only reason that happened was because I'd recently eaten a tasty meal of that and so that was what was already in my head.

#LateNightWrite ...The whole point of current revisions on #OuroborosWIP is to redo the relationship between Lara and Amerlaine. Where they once didn't know each other, Amerlaine is now Lara's former mentor, which makes things very messy. 2/2

#LateNightWrite I've written the gamut. Usually I like to have some redeeming quality, but it's also fun to have someone who just really sucks. My current WIPs are interesting: for #OuroborosWIP, a big focus of revisions is making the MC/villain relationship into former mentee/mentor, which 1/?
#LateNightWrite How do you write antagonistic characters in your stories? Do you prefer irredeemable villains? Not necessarily evil opposing views? Are your antagonists foils to your protagonists, are they two sides of the same coin?

#LateNightWrite Well, #OuroborosWIP is set in multiple worlds, but about half is set in the tropical forest of one world. We also see a pretty dry region, and a temperate city in the middle of winter. I look forward to exploring more in sequels, including one with incredibly nasty storms.
Second question: what kind of biomes exist in your worlds? Are they filled with life or sparse? What does the life look like? Are there people dedicated to learning more or preserving their ecosystems?

#LateNightWrite Time is a bit of a theme in #OuroborosWIP, as little time loops are a thing you can get caught in in the void between the worlds. The story itself covers a short time span, just a week, with the entire second half occurring over just 24 hours.
#LateNightWrite How does the passage of time affect your story? Does it take place over the course of a short or longer period of time? Does the world change around the characters in that time?

#LateNightWrite With the exception of Ross and Cenetti, everyone in #OuroborosWIP is monolingual, with those two being bilingual. Although Cenetti privately admits that Ross's Tavarish accent is atrocious (but he still appreciates the effort).

#LateNightWrite Families look similar to the real world in #OuroborosWIP, but that includes a wide range. Lara is an only child raised by her father after her mom left when she was a kid. Meanwhile Ross and Marei come from a family with 5 kids total (their parents wanted three).

#LateNightWrite But in quite a few of my stories most people just aren’t aware of the villain’s villainous actions. If they knew, they’d disapprove, but it’s not common knowledge. Like in #OuroborosWIP, the powers that be would rather not have the public aware that the villain turned on them.
