I've never known that. Most famous case I've heard of comic ripoffs was when Joe Rogan was on KLBJ trashing Carlos Mencia for stealing bits. Haven't heard a peep out of Mencia for decades.

impossible to describe how it felt in the mid-90s when "Possum Kingdom" was on the radio in good rotation, at work trying to mop up the glass/acid spill of a cartload of pickle boxes crashed on the floor while someone screams "Do you wanna die?" from a speaker cut into the drop ceiling.
