Bookmark resting on a tiled taqueria countertop, leaning against a glass partition, reading, "Bodhisattvas don't eat meat when sun-based proteins abound." If Catholics can give up little boys, we can give up killing sentient beings when we don't have to. The cognitive dissonance arising from a lofty dharma--full of big words such as bodhicitta, great compassion, all sentient beings, don't kill, don't harm, and so forth--exceeding our will and lazy capacity is how the dharma plummets in a short time from realized to merely transmitted to farce. How much do you really care about other sentient beings? When limited by conditions such as geography, climate, scarcity, poverty, precarious survival, genuine dependence on alms or the dole, and so forth, the bodhisattva does what s/he has to do. However, in the context of our embarrassment of riches and near endless cheap protein options in the modern first world, a common atheist humanist vegan or vegetarian with no exposure to the teachings puts a flesh-guzzling Tibetan in the diaspora (and their Western acolytes all too eager to adopt an excuse to maintain a flesh addiction) to shame. #hypocrites #stepup #growup #lostinabstrusepramana #hidingbehindbigwords #tibetannihilists #destroyingthedharma #stoppretending #stopcallingyourselvesbodhisattvas #icallbullshit #goringabell
