Remember the 2011 Motorola Atrix Lapdock? I used this phone-powered laptop at university, but its locked-down Linux container/Firefox "Webtop" setup doomed it to fail.

Remember the 2011 Motorola Atrix Lapdock? I used this phone-powered laptop at university, but its locked-down Linux container/Firefox "Webtop" setup doomed it to fail.

PSA: HDMI *in* to DP alt mode + USB combiners now exist at consumer prices. The AV Access H2C01 is around $40. I have an HP LapDock I mostly use as a KVM for USB-C machines, but this opens up the support to much more than that.

Anyone made use of a lapdock like #nexdock on here? Curious as I am considering it for at home with the #SteamDeck and eventually on the road with my #murena phone when they add that feature, but I am barely on the road with the need.

the lens servos work. the speaker works. the shutter works. the sd card works. the buttons are responsive. and thanks to the one micro or maybe mini hdmi device i own, i can verify that whatever chip outputs video works

The Lapdock has miracast! But there's a longstanding bug that doubles every typed letter. There's a few other usability issues like that. Trackpad velocity, etc.

a funny thing is that motorola did it 15 years ago and when i saw this thing in the wild at CES, i was absolutely convinced something like it was going to be the future
