President Donald Trump suggested replacing a planned America 250 anniversary concert with a large political rally after several scheduled performers withdrew from the event. The concert, part of the broader Freedom 250 and Great American State Fair celebrations planned for the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, had been scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall. However, multiple artists, including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day and The Time, and C+C Music Factory, reportedly pulled out of participation. Following these withdrawals, Trump posted on social media that the event should be scrapped in favor of a large “Make America Great Again” rally, arguing that political supporters and a speech by him would better represent the celebration than what he described as overpriced or disengaged performers. He also criticized a federal judge in a separate post related to a ruling involving the Kennedy Center, framing it as part of broader disputes over cultural and political influence in national celebrations. Organizers of Freedom 250 initially announced a lineup of performers, but the changes have created uncertainty around the entertainment portion of the celebration. Despite the withdrawals, some artists, such as Vanilla Ice, have expressed support or willingness to perform. In response to the evolving situation, Freedom 250 later confirmed that Trump would deliver an opening speech for the celebration, kicking off the series of events marking America’s 250th birthday. The planned festivities are expected to run from late June through early July 2026 and are intended to be a major national commemoration involving concerts, speeches, and public gatherings across Washington, D.C.
