#MicroEcosystems
A new study reveals there are an estimated 26,000 unique bee species globally, a staggering jump from previous counts. This "specialization explosion" is the result of millions of years of bees co-evolving with specific flowers and microecosystems.

Gentle Universe
Galaxy frog's microecosystems are very fragile, and tourists destroying them for cute photos aren't helping with species' survival.

“The world is… “

You mean other humans

The stars still burn across the sky, the trees feel the warmth of the day, entire microecosystems rise and fall, what you are describing is not the entire world, but the actions of a few humans inflicted on others

Did you know that bison wallows are part of the reason they’re considered a keystone species? #Bison often roll on the ground during mating season or to ward off insects. This behaviour creates distinct depressions in the ground, which store water & create microecosystems teeming with #prairie life.

Had to split the factions
Bug people who have such complete microecosystems they can run self-sufficient in space for decades

Megacorps Conglomerate who WILL turn everything into Coruscant if not stopped

Space Amish who only use tech when mandatory; as simple of equipment as possible for all else

🦎🧪 New research from PhD student Talon Jost & Dr. Molly Bletz: Tetrodotoxin (TTX) on newt skin correlates with microbiome shifts — but not always with pathogen (Bd) infection.

Find out how toxins & microbes interact in amphibians: www.frontiersin.org/journals/amp...
Frontiers | Tetrodotoxin, fungal pathogen infection, and bacterial microbiome associations are variable in the skin microecosystems of two Taricha newt species
A diverse metabolome exists on amphibian skin that mediates interactions between hosts and skin microbiomes. Tetrodotoxin is one such metabolite that occurs ...

Catching up on the all important endogenous vs exogenous Taricha tetrodotoxin production debate.

The current consensus seems to be that exogenous microbial sources are cultivated and manipulated via endogenously produced cues to synthesize high levels of toxin.

Your daily choices are tiny hurricanes

One coffee order supports a different farmer. One conversation shifts someone's entire week. Your presence makes you a keystone species in microecosystems nobody tracks.

Be the organism whose absence would collapse everything around it—but make it accident...

Terrestrial algae play a critical, yet often overlooked, role in the functioning of biological soil crusts (biocrusts), which are considered microecosystems, particularly in extreme environments. This study investigated the ecophysiological traits of green algae isolated from the grit crust—a unique biocrust type reported a few years ago in the coastal Atacama Desert (National Park Pan [...] The post Ecophysiological Study Of Green Microalgae Isolated From The Grit Crust Of The Atacama Desert appeared first on Astrobiology .
