#Micromoths
It occurs that I have not inflicted gharstly moffs upon your poor suffering eyes in recent times. Thus there is a lack of appreciation for non-moth posting 🤨
This will not do.

So flee in horror before the might of my exterior light-attracted moths! {Light turned off after pics taken, btw}

The iNaturalust AI suggests that I recorded my 3000th species this morning: Walker's Epinotia Moth... but even though it looks "right" to me, I've learned that these micromoths are complicated and difficult! I'll await the judgement of a human expert 😃

There's just not nearly enough people doing identifications. Some categories are worse than others... my bird observations sometimes get identified in less than a minute, while micromoths can take years. There's a couple threads about it in the Forum:

A labour of love. Identifying #lepidoptera species, especially micromoths, requires time & patience but we gathered the best experts from across Europe.
Nothing less would do: during the @10klepgenomes.bsky.social field workshop in Vlahi 🇧🇬, we collected ~300 species! 💪💪

Acrocercops sp. (I think)

One of the striking micromoths seen at our Perth Hills moth light. We've recorded this particular Leaf Blotch Miner Moth (Family Gracillariidae) a couple of times, although I can't determine which species it is.

A couple of Eriocraniid micromoths from the woods last night. The gold one is Dyseriocrania subpurpurella I believe. The other is likely to be Eriocrania sangii on date, but it's a gen det job and unfortunately I didn't pot this specimen. Both are lovely moths though #TeamMoth

So this arrived today, I don't think that micromoths of the low countries have ever before been compiled in one (2 volume) guide before in such a clear and accessible way, with life cycle info. Anyone with interest in micromoths of NW Europe should buy this! knnvuitgeverij.nl/artikel/hand...

We’ve had a lot of micromoths visiting our moth light in the Perth Hills over the last few nights, including this lovely, but currently unidentified, moth.

Likely in Tineoidea and most probably a Bagworm (Psychidae) as far as I can tell.

These are my first eighteen NFG micromoths of the year. It's taking me a while to sort through the pictures because I keep getting distracted by the #moths, which I haven't looked at since I took them. I've added what I believe to be their names to the alt-text. #teammoth

I decided to follow the trend and make a collage of this year's first twenty NFG macromoths. I should have included a Least Black Arches, but I couldn't find the shot, so I changed it to an Obscure Wainscot (NFG, no. 21). I'll complete the macros before going on to the micromoths. #teammoth

South Dakota hosts over 443 documented moth species, ranging from tiny micromoths to giants with six-inch wingspans. While you're likely familiar with butterflies, moths in South Dakota actually outnumber their daytime cousins by a significant margin and play crucial roles in pollination and the food chain. Whether you're checking your porch light after sunset or exploring forests and prairies, you'll discover an incredible diversity of these often-overlooked insects right in your backyard.
