Modern remotes modulate the infrared signal at around 40 khz because the first optical remotes used receiver circuitry that was adapted from the acoustic receivers. So in a sense, they are still with us.
The Zenith "Space Commander" was the 1st TV remote control and used no batteries. Each button cocked and fired a hammer into 1 of 4 calibrated metal rods of different lengths which generated an ultrasonic tone like a tuning fork.

You have to learn how to modulate your voice, both online and off. If everything is set to 100%, you’re robbing yourself of the ability to underline when something is actually important.
