Besides a brilliant scientist, Marta was such a wonderful human being. It's still hard to grasp that we'll never nerd out about stem cells and morphogenesis again. That there won't be another opportunity to talk about the life we study and the life with our loved ones. Goodbye Marta, I'll miss you

I first came to know Marta through her work—elegantly studying morphogenesis and self-organization during early mammalian development.
When I was fortunate enough to get to know the person behind the beautiful science, I was deeply struck by her positive energy and kindness.

To build complex tissues, cells need to produce energy to grow, generate forces and modulate mechanical properties. The role of metabolism and tissue mechanics in development is experiencing a renewed interest. Yet, we know very little about how these systems interact to drive morphogenesis...

Mechano-metabolic control of multicellular morphogenesis

Bodineau, Pourquié, @mongeralab.bsky.social & co discuss how research into mechano-metabolic feedback loops during multicellular morphogenesis has the potential to drive major advances in our understanding of #DevBio. doi.org/10.1242/dev....

Metabolism is traditionally studied at the individual cell level, yet its role during development is very much under-appreciated. @mongeralab.bsky.social, @matyasbl.bsky.social and Olivier Pourquié lab discuss this interesting interplay between metabolism and morphogenesis: doi.org/10.1242/dev....

🧬 How do mechanics and metabolism work together to shape developing tissues?
In this review by Bodineau et al. it highlights growing evidence that the interplay between these processes plays a key role in development and until recently has been largely overlooked. 🔬

New from our lab in @jcellsci.bsky.social: the earliest cell divisions help build the #zebrafish left-right organizer. #Cytokinetic bridges recruit actin and mark where rosettes form. Maybe an enhancer for some gene involved in morphogenesis hitch-hiked along with some completely different allele doing something important for sperm motility. Maybe it’s purely random. You *can’t* look at it and say two horns are optimal for animal A and one horn is optimal for animal B.
