We should force politicians and corporations (e.g. through buying and voting) to use open source energy management systems, and invest in initiatives like MyEMS, OpenEMS, OpenRemote or open source plugins for Home Assistant. That way we create a robust, cost effective grid that we control ourselves.

Here I started with learning openEMS to simulate an antenna, and now I'm writing a KiCAD plugin to setup the simulation directly there 😅 Why is a project never small?

At RF, your circuit stops being “small” compared to the signal - and everything changes.

OpenEMS is the first thing that comes to mind, but gosh, it's a pain in the butt to use

At this point I can only really just simulate the heck out of it with elmer/openEMS and pray to the old gods it's somewhat accurate

This Blender openEMS electromagnetic animation shows how the high gain antenna onboard the lunar rover operated. Radio waves transmitted from earth hit the parabolic wire mesh dish which are then focused and collected at the focal point of the wire mesh dish. @blender3d.bsky.social #b3d #blender3d

Do you understand how #RF and #magnetics work? Any time I check out Sam Aldhaher's visualizations, I do just a bit better. We spoke on The Amp Hour this week about how to get started in #blender and build out visualizations using tools like #openems and #elmer_fem.

Today I tried out OpenEMS. Here's a Gaussian-pulse with a bandwidth of ~5 GHz traveling down a micro-strip transmission line, done in 55 lines of python.
I'm excited to build more complex simulations, like a micro-strip layer transition with nearby vias.

The general flow i've seen, for KiCad at least is

1) Export PCB and slice the geometry
2) Feed it to OpenEMS and/or ElmerFEM to get channel characteristics, s-params, etc
3) use PyBERT to yell at the channel

But it all kinda falls apart after, and I found there is no real "flow" or guide on it

Die Geräte kommunizieren leider nicht untereinander. 😡😡😡

Hi. The 3 best open source solutions are Meep, openEMS and gprMax. I have been using Meep lately, and It was able to handle some nasty plasmonics simulations. Regarding Windows, the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) or Docker could be viable solutions. I would be happy to provide some guidance. 😁

I have it driving MatLab and openEMS (an electromagnetic solver) while I drink coffee and kibitz with it. It is saving me a ton of work because the setup of these models is really detailed and small errors can lead big problems. But I have the experience to know when it's going off into the weeds.

Speaking of Xyce, I need to go through the hell to build the new version of that, and I should also update ElmerFEM and OpenEMS.

Playing with Emerge Electro-Mag solver from Robert Fennis github.com/FennisRobert... it's promising and well architectured ! Maybe I'll switch from OpenEMS to this one in the coming months/year.

Started my openEMS journey yesterday too see if I can I use it for antenna simulation instead of Ansys HFSS. From what I've seen on Twitter it should be doable.

Started with a patch antenna that was quite easy. Now to try an IFA, with the final aim for a dual-band (868 MHz, 2.4 GHz) antenna.
