#Orbanism
Orbanism. Hiding behind procedure and superficial compliance while dismantling both.
Bessent tells Rep. Sanchez he can't comment on Trump's tax audit immunity deal because of ongoing litigation -- but he can't name the ongoing litigation 🙃

More regime consolidation of the media. Orbanism.

Orbanism in America.
“.. Behind the scenes in recent days, Trump has repeatedly told allies that CNN should either be sold or get new leadership, according to people familiar with the discussions, even if Netflix’s proposal is approved.”

This is a useful corrective, but I think it overstates the case of how easy it was to dismantle Orbanism, the cost of Orbanism in the meantime, and the degree to which most serious analysts portrayed Orbanism as irreversible.
I watched for years as commentators here held up Hungary as this terrifyingly effective authoritarian apparatus that had little chance of being dislodged and dismantled and yet here are watching Orbans system be quickly wiped away like the paper tiger it actually was all along
Orban’s propaganda outlets are finally being dismantled in Hungary. “Public media should not lie. We are sorry for doing it for so long,” read an on-screen message from the country’s main public broadcaster. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

His domestic policy is Orbanism, his foreign policy is Putinism, and his economic policy is 17th Century mercantilism.

Hungarian taxpayers paid American “post-liberal” Rod Dreher $105,000 last year to produce propaganda for Orban’s regime. www.jaccusepaper.co.uk/p/the-strang...

The Paramount-Skydance saga "reeks of Orbanism."

That's the assessment of @gscheiring.bsky.social, who experienced Viktor Orbán's autocratic power plays in Hungary firsthand as a member of the Hungarian parliament. 🧵

musk wants to do Milleism, Trump wants to do Orbanism
It's kind of interesting that musk's (and his gang of teenagers') takeover or whatever the hell they're doing doesn't really seem to be in trump's interest at all
February 2, 2025 at 11:53 PM
Trump thinks Orbanism can work in America, that he can be a Putin, Erdgan, Modi or Netanyahu. But it won’t work. I genuinely believe we won’t stand for it.

Pathetic from UPenn. This is the road to Orbanism.

And Orbanism ended in the complete destruction of Central European University — CEU left Hungary entirely.

That's the path US universities are on: destruction. We need them to stand up, not give in to the autocrat in the White House. 🧪
BREAKING

The University of Pennsylvania has come to an agreement with the Trump administration on what the Department of Education said was its Title IX violations.

This will include stripping trans athlete Lia Thomas of her records, titles, and recognitions.

it was never about the budget imo, it's about plausible defenses for American Orbanism
musk is committed to cutting even the most essential staff to save what is really a budgetary rounding error
An excellent conversation about the real-world impacts of cutting Nat’l Weather Service.

For four bucks a person we get life-saving emergency weather alerts and constant monitoring that keeps air travel safe and comfortable. That gets our packages delivered.

Late stage Orbanism, hopefully ending soon

I mean this puts even Orbánism to shame.
Trump said he deserved a cut for brokering the TikTok deal, and at once there was agreement that his son Baron would have a top executive slot... though he hasn't asked for it, and has no apparent qualifications to hold it. This is how Trump 2.0 works. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

Thanks to opposition leader Péter Magyar, "Hungary’s Christian conservative Disneyland, a shining beacon for Tucker Carlson, JD Vance, and others in the Trump administration, may be heading toward collapse."

An upstart opposition leader, Péter Magyar, is shrewdly capitalizing on the prime minister’s blunders.

the thing about Shadi is that he presents as liberal, but his ideal government is Islamist Orbanism.
he has changed his views on this, because Shadi mainly writes on things he was wrong about 6 months ago in an endless self-licking ice cream cone of hollow punditry

Ah, Orbanism in the wild in Britain in the year 2026.

We still can. Think about #Hungary which was way deep into #Orbanism further than we are in #Trumpism. 🙏🏽

Orbánism is all fun and games until you end poorer than Romania.

And as I "predicted", if Hungary liberated itself from Orbanism, EU would become unshackled and would then be free to turn against it's enemies.
People saw Orbanism as mainly a threat through Russia and him blocking our support and clandestine fight together with Ukraine.

We zoomed into fascism and way beyond Orbanism far faster than anyone foresaw.
