Of course it doesn't mean that the rest of IEEE conference proceeding is clean. The society publisher wouldn't survive without papermills.

Record-breaking retraction: IEEE pulls >1,400 papers in one day — all linked to papermills (titles found for sale by @abalkina.bsky.social ). IEEE has retracted around 3,000 papers this year so far, our analysis suggests. @miryamnaddaf.bsky.social | @nature.com

It’s used in Icelandic too, foss and fors, rapids/falls… humans harness the energy these locations via sluice gates and in this spot there are canals too. Papermills, hydro electric etc. are common next Rapids and waterfalls like this here.

You and all the literary commandos at Writer Beware are doing some of the most important work anywhere, today. No blame if you need to step back, take a breather.

I can say, from 20+ years in scientific publishing, that papermills do this to editors, too, deliberately try to exhaust the defenders.

Next, THE rolls out a PROPER EXPERT from academia (because @smutclyde.bsky.social is an anon incel troll blogging on an anon Nazi website) to prove that there's no such thing as papermills and authorship market.
Framing, my dears.

That's a good point!
My personal theory is that human peer reviewers conditioned the system to produce a template of what a research paper must look like.
Problem is, only bad science fits this template. And papermills took over and perfected the template. And AI trains on it. What fun.

I was thinking of preprint servers not associated with publishers. Competitors to bioRxiv could arise that provide more strict screening of preprints (eg no papermills, or papers must include raw data, or other scrutiny), or less strict screening (eg a preprint server that embraces papermills)

Oh sweetie, you have no idea that you are my retailer of last resort, do you… if only you could see what I’d got from eBay, and from my two preferred papermills, and from Shepherds…

oh no, I quite like advances in technology. Papermaking technology is pretty advanced these days: how many papermills should our government build in your neighbourhood?

What does a paper mill paper look like? Not necessarily a long list of authors. We analysed 11,704 paper mill-related retractions in the @retractionwatch.com Database. Surprisingly, single-author papers were the largest individual authorship category. doi.org/10.1080/0361... #PaperMills #ScholComm

"While misconduct generally used to be carried out by an individual looking for academic notoriety, it has now evolved into a co-ordinated and commercial activity that is tapping into science’s dependence on metrics when it comes to prestige and career progression."
