3/5 trumpet bunnies for I’m Afraid You’ve Got Dragons 🐇🎺

If you’ve read it, did the second half work for you, or did you miss the cozy dragon ecology of the beginning?

A book review carousel - slide 1: a book review by yours truly, Anna. From the author who broke our hearts with The Last Unicorn... Slide 2 - featuring a castle drawing with small dragon stickers and a knight on a horse fleeing away. Text continues: Comes a boy who hunts dragons as a living... Only, the dragons are actually more like rodents here. The Princess and her family live in a dragon- infested castle... Oh, and the brave Prince is actually a coward. Slide 3, designed as a medieval manuscript: Well, hot dog! What more could you ask for? Sounds like a great start to a book! Well, you see, it has one flaw that comes for so many great heroes in the end... The Chosen-One trope. I know, I know, it's been done to great success before! But for a book that worked so hard to set itself apart, I was sad to find the book rushing to put our precious little characters into such tight litdle trope boxes. Slide 4: Overall, I had to rate this book 3/5. Did the shift to classic tropes work for you? Feel free to let me know in the comments below! The score is represented by 3 colored trumpeting hares and two black and white.

I've vectorized the cover of the first edition hardcover of "The Last Unicorn." The title/author typeface uses Kismet, the other text uses Weiss Antiqua. Get the SVG here: www.thealmightyguru.com/Wiki/index.p...

A book cover featuring a painting of three red long houses with smoke coming out of the smoke holes, set against a yellow sky. The ground beneath is green, and then the foreground is black with two white trees starkly contrasted against it. A book cover with a blue, mottled background featuring several winged dragons circling a stone castle on a cliff at dusk. A copper-colored dragon looms large in the foreground, one eye fixed on the viewer and a touch of fire exiting one nostril. A mint green book cover with three stylized red and orange deer with blue antlers leaping across from left to right. The deer get progressively larger to show how far away they are from the viewer. A book cover painted in oils, featuring two large saber-toothed cats in the foreground and a woolly mammoth herd in the background against a line of mountains. The lighting suggests the sun has just risen, painting the sky and land in oranges, yellows, and purples.

I just love this book. And that Peter S. Beagle was 19 when he wrote it is astounding. It's the OG of living-in-a-graveyard books.

Astoundingly, Peter S. Beagle wrote A Fine and Private Place when he was only 19. It was likely an inspiration for that other novel about living in a graveyard and communing with the dead, but it's oh so much better.
