Puccinia monoica, the Mustard Flower Rust, parasitizing a Boechera at Betasso Preserve. The rust tricks insects visiting these pseudoflowers into transferring spermatia from one host to another in the same way that pollinators transter pollen between flowers

CRISPR Boosts Maize Resistance to Southern Corn Rust
Researchers from Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences and partners have investigated the role of ZmJAZ12 in maize resistance to southern corn rust (SCR). Caused by the fungus Puccinia polysora, SCR is a major disease that can reduce maize yields worldwide. The study reveals significant insights into how ZmJAZ12 influences the plant's defense responses and its potential for use in maize breeding.

Puccinia magnusiana I suspect, on Common Reed at Broughton Sanctuary, Skipton. No yellow running up the leaf blade; teleospores ~19x53μm and apically rounded and pedicels ~30μm; a few yellow uredinia - urediniospores ~22x30μm. Microscopy in thread.

The TaRNS4–TaPP2C10 module regulates wheat resistance to stripe rust through RNA degradation and MAPK cascades
In wheat, phosphorylation of the S-like RNase TaRNS4 mediated by the kinase TaRLK5 promotes its degradation of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici RNA in the apoplast, enhancing resistance to stripe ...

Virulence gains in the Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici PstS10 lineage correlate with expression polymorphism in a candidate Avr effector - Communications Biology
Transcriptomic analyses identified loss of expression of a single candidate Avr effector gene, PST130_P495001, associated with a recent gain of virulence in European wheat yellow rust pathogen isolates.

Puccinia is a large genus with over 4000 species, and often highly specific in which plant species it will infect. This particular one was first described in 1890 by English mycologist and botanist Mordecai Cubitt Cooke (1825 – 1914) based on specimens found on Coprosma lucida.

A lot of the Dactylis glomerata in our field is covered in this rust Puccinia striiformoides right now, which forms bright orange uredinia in narrow stripes. I also found a few plants with a coinfection of Puccinia graminis (I think), with larger warm brown uredinia.
