I also use Ian's Secure Knot on hoodie drawstrings before putting 'em in the wash; never slips loose, never have to rethread 'em.

At my very first blood draw (at age 17 for a brain tumor), the phlebotomist got it going and was called out of the room, and the tube filled up and something happened and MY BLOOD SPURTED EVERYWHERE and it was my first time so I didn't know what to do so I just sat there covered in blood.

If your machine is giving you hassle, rethread it before trying to troubleshoot anything else. The odds are really strong that you just need to rethread it.
