From the two sources given, we cannot reconcile which is the correct one.

Aside from the NWS, the Royal Meteorological Society (RMets) suggests that rain percentages are calculated by ensemble forecasts from weather models: >>

What does a 30% chance of rain mean?
Will it rain today? Your weather app might say 30%, but do you know what that actually means? Ken Mylne explains why it's probably not what you're thinking...

How do tiny particles in the atmosphere influence clouds, weather, and climate? And why do aerosol effects remain one of the largest uncertainties in climate prediction?

Our 3-part masterclass series explore these questions with researchers from the University of Leeds.

An estimated correction factor based on RMetS Weather logs was applied to ensure consistency with Campbell-Stokes data and is what the Met Office does with its records. More information on that can be found here (www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/cli...)

The nature-climate link quantified by Curran and Curran in #rmets Weather journal 15 Jan 2025. "The current atmospheric increment of +2.5ppm CO2 per year would have been reduced to 1.9ppm CO2 if the biosphere had maintained its 1960s growth rate" doi.org/10.1002/wea....
Natural sequestration of carbon dioxide is in decline: climate change will accelerate
The rate of natural sequestration of CO2 from the atmosphere by the terrestrial biosphere peaked in 2008. Atmospheric concentrations will rise more rapidly than previously, in proportion to annual CO...

Ugh, I'm meant to be travelling down to Exeter on the 7th for the RMetS conference, so am selfishly hoping this doesn't verify. But seeing >40°C in multiple GFS runs isn't giving me a lot of hope.

Feedback noted. We do always try to ensure Weather has something for everyone — it won’t always all appeal to everyone, because it is serving a very broad audience. When did you last read it?
I should note the fee is not just for Weather but also pays for access to all the RMetS journals
April 3, 2025 at 5:07 PM
Do you mean just the print version? I don't follow your argument... unless you also anticipate all the other RMetS journals including QJ closing too. Weather isn't trying to compete with the Internet's ability to keep one up-to-date on what's happening right now.
