From the two sources given, we cannot reconcile which is the correct one.

Aside from the NWS, the Royal Meteorological Society (RMets) suggests that rain percentages are calculated by ensemble forecasts from weather models: >>

What does a 30% chance of rain mean?
Will it rain today? Your weather app might say 30%, but do you know what that actually means? Ken Mylne explains why it's probably not what you're thinking...

How do tiny particles in the atmosphere influence clouds, weather, and climate? And why do aerosol effects remain one of the largest uncertainties in climate prediction?

Our 3-part masterclass series explore these questions with researchers from the University of Leeds.

An estimated correction factor based on RMetS Weather logs was applied to ensure consistency with Campbell-Stokes data and is what the Met Office does with its records. More information on that can be found here (www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/cli...)

RMetS Weather Photographer of the Year 2026 opens for entries
The world’s favourite weather photography competition returns today as the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) officially opens entries for the Weather Photographer of the Year 2026. Now entering its second decade, the competition invites photographers from around the globe to submit striking images that capture the power, beauty and impact of weather. It celebrates outstanding photography that showcases both dramatic weather events and the growing influence of climate change. The dedicated Climate Award also returns for 2026, recognising images that connect weather with wider environmental change. As a visual medium, photography offers a powerful way to communicate complex scientific ideas and engage global audiences.

Ugh, I'm meant to be travelling down to Exeter on the 7th for the RMetS conference, so am selfishly hoping this doesn't verify. But seeing >40°C in multiple GFS runs isn't giving me a lot of hope.

The UK climate is warming by about 0.25°C per decade.
RMetS
Compared with 1961–1990, the number of days 5°C above average has doubled.
Days 8°C above average have trebled.
Days 10°C above average have quadrupled. RMetS

For Richard Tice this acceleration of record breaking weather is NORMAL? REALLY?

Yes I did do the short course on Understanding The Weather! That one was fun. I even joined the student part of RMetS for a while.
