As RFK Jr. Opens Inquiry On Disputed Health Effects Of Cellphone Radiation, What Does Science Tell Us About Radiofrequency Emissions?
In a post on X, Kennedy said the investigation would “identify gaps in our knowledge and make sure that federal policy keeps pace with rapidly changing technology.” Members of the public, scientists, and really anyone with a view on this issue are invited to respond to the inquiry. Not all radiation is created equal “Radiation” sounds scary, of course it does, and there are definitely forms of radiation humans should stay away from as much as we possibly can. Gamma rays are the clearest example. These are a form of ionizing radiation that can damage body tissues and cause genetic mutations, so even small doses can be deadly. Even X-rays, despite their obvious usefulness in medicine, pose risks that mean we must limit people's exposure to them. Radio frequencies, on the other hand, are non-ionizing and approximately a billion times less powerful, so they can't cause tissue or DNA damage in the same way. That’s a good thing, because we’re exposed to RF emissions all the time. <span class="fr-mk" style="display:...

Oof, that's rough. I thought I might have CCI at one point, but I think it's more likely the spot where my neck meets the rest of my spine instead, not where my skull meets my neck.

My neck is MOSTLY numb from radiofrequency ablation, but that spot is really sore right now. And stiff around it.

Cerebellar Deep Brain Stimulation during fMRI: Initial Findings and Simulation-Informed Thermal Assessment
The cerebellum has garnered increasing interest as a promising deep brain stimulation (DBS) target for dyskinetic cerebral palsy and other conditions such as cerebellar ataxia and stroke. Functional MRI of cerebellar stimulation can facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying symptom response; however, evidence regarding its safety and feasibility is lacking. In this report, we first assessed the risk of radiofrequency-induced heating through simulations informed by postoperative CT images from 3 patients with distinct cerebellar DBS hardware orientations. Following heating estimates, and as part of an ongoing trial ([NCT06122675][1]), we then collected 3 functional MRI runs in one anesthetized patient with DBS turned ON, turned OFF, and cycled ON/OFF in 30-second intervals. Simulations suggested acceptable heating under our scanner and sequence conditions, with peak temperature increases ranging from 0.6°C–1.5°C. Preliminary stimulation-induced brain activations and functional connectivity changes appeared consistent with the underlying structural anatomy.
