This week's #SaturdayShowoff shows an unusual angle on one of our buses - because it's an unusual rear! It's Bury 116, a Leyland built in 1963. A contender for #RearOfTheYear...?

Want to see it? Visiting details at motgm.uk

Two Tits. Two
bums. Another for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #ButtShotts. Two immodest European Blue Tits, on the garden bird feeders, obviously left the nest early with no undies.

Two European Blue Tits on the garden bird feeders. The bird to the left leans down into a metal tray to retrieve food, revealing its yellow arse. The right Tit achieves the same rude affect by hanging upside down from a metal cage, containing fat balls. Camera: Canon 400 EOSD digital Tamron 55-200mm lens.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ButtShots, a bird that is showing off its rear. This male #CommonYellowthroat was displaying his back end while preening (Concord, MA - 6/30/26) 😁💛🪶

A male Common Yellowthroat with a bright yellow throat and chest, olive-green upperparts, a whitish belly with yellow under tail coverts, and a black "bandit" mask bordered above by a thin white line. This bird was perched on a brown branch of a tree in an open area, with other branches, green leaves, and a blue sky in the background. Seen early in the morning at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts.

@robcrank68.bsky.social says today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ButtShotts, the Alt is #OpenBeaks. The Great Spotted Woodpecker has the brightest red bum on the block and Starling's have plenty to say for themselves.
#Birds #Photography #ECK #naturephotography #ukbirding #RearOfTheYear #wildlife
A male Great Spotted Woodpecker clings to the green base of a bird seed feeder, exposing its red rear plumage as it arches its tail beneath the structure. The bird's black and white body feathers contrast sharply with the flash of red and the small patch that can just be seen at the rear of its head, which is intent on taking seeds from the hole in front of it, using its long sharp beak. Camera: Canon EOS 400D digital Tsmron 55-200mm lens. A speckly black and white Starling stands on a brown fence post with its beak open, making that strange chittering noise. The bird's plumage glistens in the morning sunlight and one small beady eye is visible in profile as it faces to the right, waiting its turn on the garden bird feeder. The background is the top of a neighbour's brown garden waste bin, part of the road and greenery by a hedgerow. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro.

Rob said today's #BirdOfTheDay Alt theme is #OpenBeaks, birds with their beaks open. So I’m going with another #Robin singing it’s little heart out as they do…

So Rob has said today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ButtShotts, any bird that is showing off it's rear. I have 2 problems with that - keeping butt shots seems wrong & I can’t ID the bird! 😉

Good morning from 🇵🇱
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ButtShotts, any bird that is showing off it's rear, the Alt theme is #OpenBeaks.
Spot of morning birding, and it seems the local wildlife has collectively decided to give me the cold shoulder!

A female goosander stands on a concrete shoreline next to the water, facing directly away from the camera. She has turned her head sharply back over her shoulder with her slender, red beak wide open, perfectly combining a rear view with an open beak. A close-up, back-view shot of a Eurasian nuthatch gripping the rough bark of a tree trunk. The bird is positioned head-down, completely exposing its fluffy white and chestnut-red undertail covert feathers and strong legs. A long-tailed tit perched facing away amongst green birch leaves and catkins. Its fluffy, round body shows brown and white feathers on its back, with its signature exceptionally long, black-and-white tail extending diagonally upwards. A great spotted woodpecker with its head and upper body completely hidden inside a tree hollow, leaving only its back, long black tail feathers, and bright red undertail coverts sticking out into the open.

When the radio started to croak about a flasher in the park, Freddie Fulmar from the Flying Squad leapt into action as he knew it had to be Robbie Reed Warbler up to his old tricks. And Freddie knew he had to act quickly or Robbie would vanish back into the reeds, so he set off in the general direction of the message knowing it wasn't going to be easy to find him. But as usual Freddie would do his best even if it meant calling in more help, which is something Freddie wasn't keen on because he knew it would make Robbie go into hiding. So his aim was to keep a low profile while he searched the area where the incident had been reported, Freddie also knew this was the 3rd incident reported about Robbie flashing the passing birds in the same location. Well i say good luck Freddie, but my money's on Robbie. Captured at Tophill Low Nature Reserve. Sarah Sand Martin wasn't very pleased with her partner Samuel Sand Martin because she kept telling him to cover up when he comes to pick her up, but yet again he has his undercarriage on full show for all to see. And she knew sooner or later it will come to the attention of Freddie Fulmar from the Flying Squad, but all Samuel kept saying was 'it was too hot to cover up'. And this was a big issue for Sarah because her neighbours were starting to comment about the goings on, and it wouldn't be much longer before her parents found out about what Samuel was doing on their doorstep with regards to letting it all hang low. Captured at Tynemouth Pier. Billy 'Harris' Black-legged Kittiwake was tidying out his nest area and hadn't spotted the paparazzi lurking below, where everything was on show to them while they clicked away. But once he realised they were there he knew it was too late as the shots had already been taken for the 'Daily Bird' tabloids, and he knew there was no point in trying to persuade them not to send the photos in because he had already tried on other occasions and failed. Granted it wasn't about the same thing, but Billy knew it would feature in their 'Rear of the Year campaign that the tabloids run every year to compete with their rivals. Especially when so many rears are on offer at 'Eagleton Tennis Championships', and the fact that Billy went out in the 1st round made him an easy target. But he also knew it would possibly help him with some free publicity to try and gain a few more sponsors for the rest of the year's tennis tournaments, because he needed the funding with all the Air Miles he keeps using to get around. Captured at Tynemouth Pier. Henry Herring Gull couldn't believe his eyes when Hilda turned around and flashed all her rear for all to see, and all she kept saying to him was 'I'm in love with Freddie' over and over which made Henry jealous because he had been in a relationship with Hilda for 9 months. So her plan was to keep flashing everyone her rear until eventually it would get reported to Freddie Fulmar, which would mean he would have to come and investigate the goings on at the Pier at some point. Normally it's the young birds jumping into the water that he has to contend with at the pier but this is a completely different situation, and not one he's used to from the female birds. But sadly for Hilda, Freddie was already dealing with a more serious flasher with Robbie Reed Warbler still evading capture, and this was a more serious issue than Hilda showing off her bloomers. Captured at Tynemouth Pier.

A wren is like a tiny, plump, round ball of feathers, a bit like a small, warm, brown pebble that moves fast, with a surprisingly loud, cheerful, trilling song that fills the air even though the bird itself is one of the UK's smallest, often seen darting through bushes with its short tail held up like a little flag, feeling warm and busy in the garden.

A white gull is captured from behind as it plunge-dives into dark, calm water, its wings fully outstretched in a wide V shape. The bird’s head is submerged, with only its butt, wings, and red legs visible above the surface. Ripples radiate outward in circular patterns, and small splashes and droplets hang in the air, conveying the instant of impact during the hunt against a softly blurred, brownish water background.
