I feel terribly lucky to have had the Manics there throughout my life. They basically saved my shit when I was 13 years old and now, three decades later, they still delight, console and educate me. Reithian pop music basically, but with lipstick slogans on military fatigues.

Yes. The science unit was gutted. And now the World Service's Science In Action is going. All very un-Reithian.
I actually don't know if anyone who hasn't worked with the BBC knows how much threat it's under. I do a lot of stuff for Radio 4 (never been an employee) and about 80% of senior producers and experienced staff have left now. Forced out, offered redundancy, told they'd need to move to Glasgow or go.
Vast areas of Britain will suffer a news/information blackout if the BBC goes. Tech/London Rich men are not interested in running a news operation in Dorset.

They need leadership that prioritises Reithian values over fears of headlines & intimidation in right-wing newspapers. Enemies of truth should be enemies of the BBC. Not contributors to be ‘balanced’ out by evidence & expertise. The timorousness of historic climate change coverage has spread.
