b) Why do I feel like they wouldn’t be thorough cleaners?
Some startups are taking this notion to the extreme. As the BBC reports, an AI company called Micro AGI is sending college-educated Silicon Valley types, loaded with cameras, to scrub filthy New York City apartments for free as part of an initiative called Shift. The hope is that the resulting footage will be worth more to the robotics and AI industries in the form of training data than what residents would pay for the service.

The only companies that can make money off LLMs are going to be ones cheaply training a niche specific closed source model for solving a specific robotics, code, or manufacturing problem. You can't make -money- off of AI as a service, you can only make money off other things it enables.

Andrew Chernevych 1st Head Archivist ICA Consultant Coordinator o... 8h. believed my job (Archivist) is fairly resistant to Al disruption. After all it's quite complex and diverse. However, the recent tech news - Al agents and all that - forced me to reconsider. Now it looks realistic that within two decades, archival services/ operations will be largely 'Al-ed': chat bots running the reference service; retrieval, reproduction, processing streamlined with robotics. Subsequently, the bulk of rank-and-file archivist positions (union ones included) will gradually disappear by attrition. For illustration, see how the disruption will effect office workers over next few years https://lnkd.in/gnA74ycY This will happen after the disruption steamrolls the bigger professions - accountants, lawyers, 'ealtors, software developers. The archival professionals willinger in the shadows for a while because it's a tiny industry, largely non-commercial. But eventually the automated records management model will take over the archives. First it will come to the provincial/state and national archives, then smaller institutions. The new way: a department/ functional area can be run by one person with a team of Al-agents. Only a fraction of the workforce survive the upheaval. Who wlill keep their jobs? Three categories come to mind. In large institution, it's Al-savvy managers and some technicians. The second group is local general practitioners, who manage all archival operations in a smaller institution. Finally, the outreach sector will hold some opportunities. If you have charisma, knack for story-telling and public engagement, you might be in demand as "archival educator" (aka record whisperer.) So better hone your drama skills and become a YouTube star (not optional). Traditional archivist is going the way of the dodo and telecine operators.
