Pagan Roman and early Christian lore regarding the hare suggested it was hermaphroditic and thus able to reproduce without loss of virginity: this is one of the many reasons hares and rabbits are associated with spring and fertility. #FolkloreSunday

“Roman met the woman while working an off-duty security detail for Bad Monkey in early February. According to police affidavits, arrest warrants, and summaries of police interviews with both Roman and the woman, Roman whistled and “catcalled” the woman as she got off a bus for extras on set.”

Here are three wonderfully preserved Roman shoes that were discovered at Bar Hill Roman fort on the Antonine Wall in Scotland in the early 1900s. Shoes made for men, women and children have been found there, reminding us that frontier zones were not an exclusively military environment. #FindsFriday

Typical Friday afternoon in search of Mithraic mysteries.

The Roman god Mithras had his very own mystery cult/religion - a powerful challenge to early Christianity. We still don’t know much about it (including its rituals), but it sounds a bit like the Roman Masons, but more fun.
