So one of the ways I think it makes it worse is this: when the SFAB concept was introduced one selling point was that because an SFAB is constructed like a BCT, with key leaders in place, it could serve as the bones of a hastily-generated BCT in times of a mobilization-necessitating crisis…

Glad to see someone making this argument for relocating regionally-aligned Security Force Assistance Brigades forward to enhance immersion and cooperation.
In Europe, I think there may be greater demand for SFAB in southeast, but moving from US to anywhere in Europe would be a force multiplier.

They announced they were casing the colors/disolving the 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) back in May. The 4th SFAB's focus was on working with our European allies & partners.
The SFABs are also GEN Milley's babies. These guys hate GEN Milley and anyone or anything associated with him.

There was also a strong, “I want to be special but can’t/won’t go to selection (SFAS) vibe” with some of the SFAB folks so yeah, sound concept, imperfectly executed that could have been done with 1/6th of the original force structure IMO.

I was in his brigade when he got hurt but I didn't get much of an impression of him. He arrived shortly before the deployment and then it was one of those pre-SFAB tours, they only took 10% of the brigade, mostly people in leadership roles. And then he wasn't around much after the injury.
