Canada joining EU before the UK negotiates its way back in would be kinda hilarious. Curious to see how deep “associate” membership can become.
Dear @mark-carney.bsky.social, we want to bring the relationship with Canada to the highest level possible.

I would like to work with you on opening the door for Canada to being the first associate member of the EU.

And create a common prosperity and economic security space.

I absolutely believe in the need to regulate college sports to build a fair model that retains the concept of “student-athletes”.

I just have ZERO faith in some of the loudest politicians on the issue.

Money that comes into the United States government is government revenue. It is part of the public fisc. There's not "taxpayer money" and then "extra bonus money outside the rules." It's all taxpayer money. And spending *any* of it requires Congressional authorization.

Reflecting on 25 years of second and third order effects.

We knew the world changed that day; we are still discovering what that means.

There are so many lessons from Ukraine that should inform decisions about the types of Soldiers needed in a future war. Or we could continue basing our “ideal” warfighter image on outdated perceptions.

if you are "using AI for writing," you are not writing. i do not know how to make this any simpler
If using AI for writing means you never have to stop, backtrack, or start over, you’re missing the most important part of the process, writes Eve Fairbanks:
The Biggest Tell That Something Was Written By AI
Looks closely and you’ll see that everything is equally off.

Superb essay by Frank Hoffman on the rise and fall of the end of major war thesis.
New essay: our darker angels have returned. This essay written by Dr Frank Hoffman for Futura Doctrina examines the analytical failure behind the 'end of war' thesis & argues that prudent foresight, not optimistic extrapolation, is what security policy demands. mickryan.substack.com/p/our-darker...
Our Darker Angels Have Returned: The Collapse of the 'End of War' Thesis
A guest article from Dr Frank Hoffman examining the 'end of war' debate, why war still has a future and what Western nations need to do about it.

The first soldier recruited by the first professional military, and every single one since, was given one fucking promise:

We will give you an honorable death. Your funeral will be taken care of. You will be remembered.

Thats the difference between a Soldier and a "warrior".

Not to put this one person on blast - a lot of folks say this - but you can't actually "just end the war."

Iran has to agree to end the war. You can unilaterally stop bombing - we did! - and the war might not end. Iran is going to demand *payment* to end the war, in the form of concessions.
You could also just end the war.
