#SPARCstation
I seem to recall that a 1GB expansion drive for a Sun SPARCstation cost about £2k in the mid 1990s.

学校のSun-3が遅すぎるので、みんなrloginでSPARCstation使ってたの思い出すなぁ

Today the Sparcstation 10 got the #NetBSD 11.0 treatment.

It would be wonderfully nerdy if a SUN SPARCstation was used in some capacity when the system runs, if only for data readouts.

Cool. I used a Sparcstation to learning OS + Sybase.

the inherently lesbian need for a sun sparcstation

“Midnight in a Perfect World” was, somehow, the first bit of music I ever heard streamed over the Internet. (On RealPlayer, running on a Sun SparcStation at Thinking Machines Inc.) Which seems appropriate since even today it sounds beamed in from a distant and unimaginably cool future.

As a nerd whose first exposure to Online with on her father's Sparcstation running netscape 2.0 on openwindows i endorse this.

The original fan is a 60x60x25 mm 12V fan, and I actually had a Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX fan for another project, so I decided it was time for a swap. It turns out this was the easiest project I've ever done. Unscrew the old fan, unplug it, screw in the new fan and use the molex power connectors. 3/4

Keeping this short, I really like this machine - but it's power supply fan (the only fan in the unit) was loud and quite high-pitched. 62 dBA by the fan, 48 dBA about a foot away, and with a lot of high-frequency components to its noise. 2/4

It's time for another SPARCstation Sunday - this time with my Frankenstein SPARCstation 2. I originally purchased a 1+, but it was nearly destroyed in shipping (hundreds of plastic fragments), so I bought another, discovering the motherboard had been swapped with an SS2! 1/4

The Centre for Computing History has a Sun SPARCstation Voyager on the bench… it’s a 1994 attempt at a workstation you could carry (“luggable”?), and a reminder that portable UNIX was once a radical proposition.
It’s #ThrowbackThursday and a #LatestDonation! 🌞
We’re exploring our recently donated Sun SPARCstation Coyager, introduced in 1994. Here’s a look at the Voyager from the inside, as our volunteers inspect this fascinating “nomadic” UNIX workstation. 🔧🖥️

If you ever pass by here on the close by E4 road I'll throw you a Sparcstation 5. 😁

you gotta do what to make a sparcstation y2k compliant......

Hey, I'm not *that* old - 1972. I first got "proper" online, using a Sun SparcStation in a lab I wasn't supposed to be in, in 1989. Before that, I had an Amiga 500, then 1200, and used Dial-up modems to get online.

RETVRN to 1990s prices. I paid $3500 for my PowerMac 7200 in 1995, and about $10k for a minimally configured SparcStation 3 the same year. Now do the inflation conversion.

In the 90s I had a SPARCstation 'pizza box' PC that was worth about $10,000.
I picked it up dead for a few hundred and had a tech friend fix it for a couple hundred more.
It wasn't all that much faster than my Commodore Amiga but had far better graphics and LINUX was a far better OS than Amiga OS.

I’m sitting in a coffee shop in downtown Portland writing. A woman just walked down the street carrying an antique SPARCstation-20, an old-school Sun workstation, with a carnation on top of it, and you know, that’s only, like, the fifth or sixth oddest thing I’ve seen this week.

■Sun
