This game's art style is giving such a heavy SVGA CD-ROM nostalgia vibe (complimentary). "Dreams on a Pillow" - worth throwing some funds at! ->

With a few exceptions, sprite art peaked with SVGA. This is not one of those exceptions.
This is straight-up criminal.

stock Doom max details:
ET4000 in 8-bit ISA mode: 19.21 FPS

It's a good core.

There's something delightfully scrunchy about 320x200 DOS Quake.

My love affair with playing SVGA-era DOS games at VGA resolutions continues.

BTW, the game didn't come out in 1995, but in 1997 - so very late for a commercially released DOS game, especially one that runs at Mode 13h (320x200 @ 256 colors) and not a SVGA mode.

With a Screamer reboot announced, let's soak up some of the OG's crunchy VGA vibes (It does have SVGA, but I prefer the VGA graphics!) as DOS and Windows PCs went toe-to-toe with the arcade racers blazing a trail on PlayStation and Saturn in '95.

Here's the SVGA version, which struggles to maintain a consistent frame rate a lil bit on our 166mhz DOS and Win 3.1 setup.

Citadel Station cryo bay through the eyes of DOS VGA and SVGA.

Our Pentium 100 setup struggled to run max detail in SVGA (640x400, double VGA's) without a choppy framerate, so in 1994, I'm sure crunchy VGA would have what most peeps would have used.

Fans of old-school point n' click adventures, y'all seem to have missed this alt-history weird west road trip.

Genuinely excellent. Rotoscoped SVGA-style pixel art, multiple solutions and endings, solid voicework - one of this games I'd have to really nitpick about to find any flaw.

A glimpse of the hottest gaming PC in 1995 and the hottest mech game of the same year: Mechwarrior 2.

But as we can see, not even $3000 worth of mid 90s PC could push SVGA MW2 at anywhere near a smooth frame rate. Which yeah, has been my experience running it on similar spec VMs.
