100 days of CO native plants

(22/100) Schoenoplectus acutus
family: Cyperaceae

The edible young sprouts and shoots are enjoyed by humans and beavers alike. The stems are used by both humans and muskrats to construct houses, the stems weaving nicely into mats. 🌾🦫

Yesterday was muggy & overcast, with the very occasional burst of sunshine.
From Bardwell I walked along the #chalkstream Sapiston River aka Black Bourn, past fords, Yellow-Water Lilies (Nuphar lutea) & beds of Common Club-Rush (Schoenoplectus lacustris).

Ricefield bulrush (Schoenoplectus mucronatus) is an invasive wetland plant, which is especially bad for rice fields (very surprising with that name!) especially because of its herbicide resistances. It is very close to being eradicated in Washington!
