When I first started watercolour painting I stretched the paper myself on a board. I needed lots of practice at using the paint and it is much cheaper to stretch the paper yourself. Now I use blocks of paper which are glued all round the edges and prevent buckling or warping from the water.The paper is really important and so is the preparation for wet on wet painting. I drew the village, trees and cliffs first with pencil. I then decided on the colours to be used and mixed them making sure I had enough of each one. I then wet the paper with clean water and a brush. I applied the coloured paint letting it blend together. I came across this photo by chance the other day. I don’t often remember to take photos of the different stages of a painting but I’m going to try to do it more often. The painting has to be completely dry to then draw over the original pencil lines with a black pen. You can also draw with the pen first and paint over that for a line and wash painting.

London’s Ulez linked to lower hospital admissions London’s ultra low emissions zone (Ulez) has been credited with a sharp fall in the number of people admitted to hospital for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The Ulez launched in 2019 to cut air pollution in the capital. It imposes a daily fee on vehicles that fail to meet emissions standards and replaced the toxicity charge, which was introduced in 2017. New research from Imperial College London links the schemes with an 8.1% reduction in yearly trends for cardiovascular disease, 6.2% for respiratory disease and 3.1% for all cause hospital admissions in central London. “While we need to take caution in how scientific findings for such a complex issue may be interpreted, these results are broadly supportive of the potential for similar interventions in other cities to have positive impacts on health,” said Daniela Fecht, an associate professor at Imperial. What was really zany was trying to find some props that could be used and then bringing them together. Oh, and that we actually have these on display in our cabin might just be a little bit zany.

Today at the gate leading to Hindhead Common there was a sign saying new Exmoor Ponies had been introduced as a former one had died.

4 Exmoor Ponies grazing on Hindhead Common taken 25 minutes ago. It was really hot I had decided to walk in the woods . When I saw the sign about the ponies I thought I would walk to where I know they usually graze. I had to turn back because the path becomes very open without trees and it was stifling heat. Imagine my delight when I came across these 4 just near the gate at the end of my walk. 😍

My son had two ewes in this field for about 9 years. They were called Dot and Peggy and were more like pets. A few weeks ago one sadly died and Dot seemed lonely. A neighbour put 3 sheep with her to keep her company. At first she wasn’t interested but now seems happier. We visited about 4 times over our long weekend and each time another sheep was there. There are now 8.🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

I was an accidental poster on BlueSky when I moved from X in Nov 2024. I had never posted on any social media. I was just on X to follow politics and was going to do the same on BSky. I followed Carole Vorderman and she asked people to post something zen. I posted a sunset and got quite a few likes. A few months later after posting more of my photos I had gained over 2K followers but I was a novice and a few things started to make me feel uneasy so I quit. Rather silly, I should have just had a break. I felt bad that I had not posted about going off. Someone might have suggested just deactivating for a while. Anyway I reassessed and after a few weeks decided the positives far outweighed the negatives and I rejoined. I remembered a lot of people I had followed and I refollowed them. I made sure I had settings correct eg no dms and was more prepared to use the block button if necessary. I am so glad I returned. I think there are some fantastic people on here, I love seeing other people’s photos, art, quotes and I think it’s a very supportive community. I also enjoy the art challenges and am thankful to the people who run them. If you have read all this thank you and have a great day. 💐💙💐

Brush cutting and raking some of the vegetation we had left over Winter Coppicing Ash saplings making a small scallop on this bank. Denser Ivy covered scrub either side left untouched. Material used to build up a dead hedge aound wet woodland nearby Finishing off laying sparse regrowth to form a new hedge. Ray removes bent over Willow in the marsh . A stitch in time before it puts down roots where it touches down

Nearly 40 yrs ago, I'd recently been told, "Photograph me! I'm an abstract in nature!" by this individual. I was horribly averse to the inclusion of people in ANY of my artistic endeavors! -Little did I yet know that dozens of people would soon approach me/us to give representations of themselves in this art. It was very humbling in short order, as well. Here is that person napping. It's a whole negative exposure print through my new Beseler enlarger. Our kitchen was also newly converted into a part-time darkroom/photolab! She's asleep, with her sheets bunched about her upper body, with one elbow jutting out straight towards the viewer. Her face is incredibly calm, surrounded by her very thick, smooth & dark hair. My very first art photography professor held this print up & said, "This is a fine example of what you should aspire to, from composition to print." -I was stunned. I was ALWAYS creating sepia toned prints & proofs, from film into the digital era. Here's our print enlargement (approximately 8x10) of the previous image, but given a sepia bath before rinsing, hanging & drying. I usually worked in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 & 11x14 inch enlargement prints. Most often my choice fell upon 8x10 prints mounted upon 11x14 boards, placed in all types of frames, plain to ornate. I also seldom made negative strip proof sheets, in favor of 4x6s or 5x7s in order to more easily share our endeavors with others. There's THOUSANDS (if not more!) of proof prints, carefully stored & in the possession of collaborators/'models'. -There was seldom much money involved with the prints, aside of gratuities -if so desired to be given. Collaboration was our joys being shared with the end products of our work, together. Enjoy. Truth be told, this portion of doing film photography didn't begin until my early thirties! -Start late, but DO get started. Study other mediums, perspective and composition. I chose to rarely view other photographers' works, in order to not imitate, even without thinking that I'd been influenced!
