This is the week I first logged onto Prodigy in 1990. We had to schedule time to use the phone line & I only had one 9-pin serial port so I had to choose my trackball mouse or 2400 baud modem depending on what I wanted to do. My PC had a clock speed of 3MHz and no hard drive. Good times.

Raspberry pi wifi isn't that great on reliability. Even giving a pi a static IP address in the router doesn't mean a pi that is up is accessible. Have a ton of them. Considering serial port comms, maybe SLIP. Not real fast but should be reliable. All these things take time.

Serial port support to make the emulated OZ-750 talk to a Tufty 2350, just like real hardware could if I put together a byzantine mess of adapters and logic level shifters....

"Arduino won't upload" is usually not the Arduino.
Pins 0 and 1 ARE the hardware serial port — the same one USB uploads through. A module on them talks over the bootloader.
Pull its two data wires. Upload. Done.

Hooking the printer up to a logic analyser and performing some test prints and cassette saves allowed me to reverse engineer the communications. A CE-136T "level converter" then lets me plug the calculator into my PC, though the protocol still has to be bit-banged in software.

I made some firmware to use the serial port to play with 0,1,z (high-z) pins on the microcontroller for manually doing the charlieplexing thing, it works, but to cough up anything cool I need to work out some more code.
