In fact I had my idea before Seveneves came out, as my editor @pnh can testify, but when Seveneves was published I pushed Moon down my schedule until such time as it wouldn't look like I was trying to ride Stephenson's lunar coattails. As it happens that worked out well for us.
Was it Seveneves that gave you the idea for your moon book @scalzi ?
Semi-related, I’d love to meet Mr. Scalzi. Anyone who continually comes up with such silly and fun books is likely fun to hang out with.
Maybe if he ever does a book signing in Vancouver I’ll go see him.

Good and bad news on the asteroid. Earth impact reduced to under 1%. However, impacting the Moon is now at 1%. My favorite NASA source says she doesn't know what would happen if it hit the Moon, as it has no atmosphere to protect it, nor is the Moon as solid as the Earth. Could be worse for us.

I thought up the idea of mine before Seveneves was published and before I heard of it BUT Seveneves made it into book form first so I put the idea on the back burner for a few years because I was pretty sure the market only has space for one "weird shit is happening with the moon" book at a time.
I wonder if @scalzi.com ever read or heard of SEVENEVES because I couldn't get that book out of my head while reading When the Moon Hits Your Eye.
The two stories aren't related at all other than that they both change the Moon, so maybe I'm just crazy.

It was a little weird that a fantasy version of Neil Degrasse Tyson and a fantasy version of Sarah Palin were both in seveneves right? It was at least a little weird?
