Adorable Shelducklings and other birds from Teesmouth and Seaton Carew last week. I always thought Shelducks got their name because they ate molluscs but I’ve learned that Sheld is an old word meaning variegated. Though they do eat marine snails too.

Adorable Shelducklings and other birds from Teesmouth and Seaton Carew last week. I always thought Shelducks got their name because they ate molluscs but I’ve learned that Sheld is an old word meaning variegated. Though they do eat marine snails too.

Delighted to see our first brood of Shelducklings at #uptonwarren this morning, as well as the now 14 day old LRP chick. Unfortunately the other LRP nest has been predated, as have any remaining Avocet nests. A Fox was seen inside the protective fence again! @worcswt.bsky.social
