Whenever I see spelling mistakes like this on professionally printed signage, I always imagine that the customer must have been a complete dick to the signmaker. 😆 😆 😆

There’s also a place up north called Shevir because the signmaker misspelled “shiver.” The town thought it was so funny that they kept it.

Favorite location name is still “Shevir.” The town was supposed to be named “Shiver” but the signmaker was overworked and cold. The townsfolk thought the misspelling was so funny that they collectively decided to adopt the new name for the town.

I swear I'm not a typography pedant, but shouldn't a professional signmaker know about real quotation marks? It hurts to look at this.

Most gold leaf is 22 karat. It is so light you have to lift it with a brush to place it on the gold size (the adhesive paint) and burnish it with a different brush. I grew up in a signmaker studio

British pubs always being called "the [noun] & [noun]" became the industry standard a few hundred years ago when an itinerant signmaker observed the absolute upper limit on the number of thoughts the average British pubgoer can conceptualize at once

And whilst I'm a bit too young to have experienced this myself, I just had to recreate some of that nostalgic signage vibe for my workshop ... So, with some expert tips from my dad (a former signmaker) and my trusty laser cutter, I think we absolutely nailed them! (cont...)
