I know it’s dark but that is the point. This is the namesake of the Simplon-Orient-Express, the Simplon tunnel. Frequent trains run through this 121-year old tunnel connecting Switzerland and Italy.

Taking the #BLS🇨🇭 regional train at #Iselle di Trasquera 🇮🇹, at the south portal of the #Simplon tunnel. The lovely station comes with some old railway charm. The “losange” type “logo inclinato” of the Italian Railways FS, introduced in the early 1980s, is still very much present.

Looks fabulous. I can also recommend the route from Geneva to Milan - round the north shore of Lac Leman (Geneva), winds up into the mountains to Brig then through the Simplon tunnel and the lake country between Domodossola and Milan.

Both SBB trains in double traction depart simultaneously for Basel. We travel past Lake Como + Gotthard Base Tunnel, while the EC62 opposite of us takes the Simplon route + Lötschberg Base Tunnel. Both are scheduled to arrive at the same time. The race is on. 🤞🏻
