🌱 A surprising twist in soil pollution!

Microplastics may reduce cadmium toxicity in plants.

A global meta-analysis of 4,243 observations reveals how plastics can alter heavy metal uptake and plant health.

Microplastics can reshape heavy metal risks in soil, but not in the same way for every metal.

A new review compares Pb, Cr, Cd, As, and Hg, revealing metal-specific responses to plastic aging, biofilms, and polymer type.

🚨 Are landfills a source of microplastics in nearby soils?
A study near Anyang’s largest landfill found 900–4,900 items/kg, mainly small fibers, films, and fragments. Pollution was moderate, but ecological risk was low.

Ground beetles (Carabidae) are now being used to “read the soil” for microplastics contamination — ~1 in 3 beetles sampled had plastic pieces in their guts. Soil isn’t safe from plastic either. #SoilPollution #Microplastics #PlasticPollution
