Thats not just absolution, that’s real structural strength.

Trump dominates all media coverage, but you have had two huge *structural changes* that directly affect minority voters that have largely gone under the radar and the effects of ICE and SCOTUS murdering the VRA will persist *long* after Trump.

The inherent structural only good can happen bias of the markets is incredible

I think this is possible.

I also think, especially if done in the context of a big Dem Senate win, it would push court-packing or at least significant structural SCOTUS reform come 2029 towards a near-certainty.
One bit of chicanery to look out for: if Democrats win the Senate, I think there's a good chance Samuel Alito resigns from the Supreme Court and the Republicans try to replace him in the lame duck session.

Yes, we all remember Merrick Garland. But we know the 'rules' are different now.

because any real structural reforms will require the oval office

2025 was defined by a broad structural collapse of American society’s willingness to uphold its own laws, rules, and norms - each institution that folded left more weight on the ones still remaining, and they all went down one by one.

TBH "detective procedural" is a compelling format for a variety of kinds of story, there's a structural reason for this.
cop show with psychic. cop show with fake psychic. cop show with OCD. cop show where cops are criminals. america loves a person with one weird thing about them solving murders.

Again, maybe This Time Is Different and dollar/US financial dominance is All Over. But the available data so far continue to not support that argument. Structural things remain almost entirely structural, notwithstanding <gestures at everything>

Voting is harm reduction, and is not the structural change that we actually need. But harm reduction is still worth doing!

We hope you vote!

There are structural challenges but previous Conservative and Labour governments have had more interest (read: any) in changing that than either the Starmer or Burnham ones have.

Structural ivy is the very sincere professional term for when a climbing plant grows so deeply into a buildings mortar that removing the plant would threaten the building. Looks beautiful, you do not want to be responsible for it, especially in a drought
‘Structural ivy’! 😅
Also providing a huge food source for insects in autumn. Investigated a loud buzz from our holly tree, covered by ivy on the lower half, worried there was a large wasp nest. Turned out it was the buzz of dozens of hoverflies all feeding on the late ivy flowers

You are not going to defeat the Republican Party with stupid, ticky-tack bullshit that doesn't work. The country needs structural democratic reforms. That's what you should be demanding from your Democratic politicians. Everything else is noise.
Fuck 'em. We can go back to behaving civilly when they agree to go back to it. Enough of them getting to fight as dirty as they want while we hold ourselves to a romantic higher standard. Stop thinking you're in a duel of honor and realize you're in a street fight.
November 1, 2026 at 9:28 PM
Partly it is structural, partly it is/was Starmer, partly it is a collective unwillingness to recognise and take on the fight (take X/Musk as an example).

One of the things I think I misjudged about post-2024 was assuming that Labour with a big majority could shift political conversations onto stuff they were more comfortable with. I'm unsure if the failure to do that is th/Keirs or more structural.

(there's another really interesting throughline here about how communist countries vacillate between "new economic policy" and "stalinism", almost as an inherent and structural aspect of their ideology, but that's maybe a topic for another day)
