When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.
We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

I’m a public librarian in a degenerating democracy, and I am pleading: Care about your library. Use it. See what programs and events it offers. And pay attention to its governing body. See who the trustees are. Consider running yourself. Libraries will need all the community support they can get. 📚

Overheard a conversation today where a GOP parent was complaining that their teen couldn't read certain books in school.

Visit the library makes me feel so refreshed! We checked out books, movies, and perused the genealogy section for a while. While we were there they also had an event where they were fixing people’s electronics for free! #supportyourlocallibraries #libraries #libraryvisit

I signed out a kayak with life vests from my library for a camping trip a few years ago. The only downside was everyone telling me to just shut up already about my sweet library kayak when I would bring it up every 2 hours.
